Budapest is not normal by any means, and its’ wild nights dwarf anything I have experienced back home. From ruin bars to pub crawls to pool parties, Budapest has it all, and it’s always amped up to 11. What is there to say about a city that is equal parts insane night-life and beautiful scenery that can’t be summed up in the phrase that everyone who comes here ends up saying every night, “Buda-fucking-pest, man.”
It only took me 2 days to understand the meaning of this. Let’s just say that you know you are in for a crazy time when the nice Serbian guy you met checking in to your in the morning before you went to explore some of the city, is naked and high, fighting the police in your room when you get back. That is how Budapest kicked off for me, and it only got crazier and more fun.
But for the sanctity of Budapest, the night-life will stay undocumented and ingrained in my memories for a long time. I can only tell you of the things I have seen but dared not document. These stories are not meant for the masses, only those daring enough to peek at the beast that is Budapest.
Pretty much any given day or night in Budapest involves an unhealthy amount of alcohol, the possibility of running into an English bloke who’s definitely shit his pants at some point during the night, unexpectedly seeing Welsh boys drinking piss from pint glasses, an excessive amount of sex in and around the hostels and pool parties, and just all manners of bodily fluid. If you can think it, odds are it is happening in Budapest when the sun goes down. The insanity is something that must be experienced and not simply viewed on a screen, and for that reason, and the fact that I don’t feel like cleaning vomit off my camera, it will stay undocumented by me for the time being.
Enough of the parties and oddities, time to show that I have actually seen a lot of the city during the day. Here are some views of the city, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Parliament, the Soviet War Memorial, the Great Synagogue, Gellert Hill, Citadella, and Szimpla, (a ruin bar so nice that I had to go back during the day to take pictures of everything).

You’ve come up with a title to equal Hungarian Rhapsody and Blue Danube,

Sodom and gomorrah in Budapest. Thanks for leaving out the vomit. The cathedral is beautiful, however.

It sounds like Budapest has all the night life that Vienna was lacking. Your pictures are great as usual and I am glad you left a lot to the imagination in your post.

Thanks for sparing us the gory pictures. Somehow I think the places you have gone are not on the official tours.
