My Rocketship to Reykjavik

The day is finally here.  The bags are packed.  My equipment is crammed into my gear bag.  Whatever is left behind will be missed and panicked over as quickly as I remember this trip is actually happening.  I’d like to thank my family who has been on the fence about the length of this trip from the get-go but supported me in my endeavor.  When I planned this trip I didn’t realize how quickly my departure day would arrive.

And arrive it did.  One would think it would be a simple task to pack a car and leave the house but when you include grandparents like mine, things get difficult.  They decided to lock the keys in the house.  Moments later the back window is popped off and my fat ass is trying to smoosh into the tiny back window.  Thankfully my grandpa is half my size.  So crisis averted.

Now to try and beat the Boston traffic and start my 97 day adventure.  First stop, experiencing the midnight sun in Iceland!

  1. To my son, God only knows how proud I am of you and everything you have done in your 25 years of life as of today. I’m happy to know I was able to play a small part to make your trip happen. Your grand parents have done well in taking care of you in my absence. I love you so much, have a great trip. Until we see each other again when you get back, know I’m here if you need anything. I will find away and make it happen if you need me or anything. Safe travels my son. Love mom
