Recently, I had the opportunity to visit an amazing place while I was in Kanchanaburi, ElephantsWorld. ElephantsWorld is a sanctuary for sick, old, disabled, abused and rescued elephants. It is essentially a retirement home for elephants where they can receive the rest and joy they deserve.
This is no jungle trek, no elephant ride, at ElephantsWorld, when you visit, you work. You prepare meals for the older elephants who have difficulty eating normal foods, you chop down bana grass for others, and you feed and bathe the elephants. It is an amazing place that, despite its lack of large volunteer staff and struggles to buy the land the sanctuary is currently located on, do right by the elephants and take care of them extremely well and treat them better than they have probably been treated in their entire hard lives. They even just received two baby elephants, one 3 years old and the other five, who were found begging in Bangkok. And they have been essentially adopted by one of the other female elephants at the sanctuary.
If you would like to know more about ElephantsWorld, volunteer, or even donate, check out ElephantsWorld.org , they can use all the help they can get.

What a wonderful post and photo array of all the elephants.I love how the bigger elephants are helping the babies get out of the mud. it’s great to see you kids helping out. This is my kind of retirement home.
